CHRISTUS FOUNDATION assisted the agency in meeting client's healthcare needs on a grand scale. The Mobile Unit provided free wellness exams to fifteen residential and two non residential clients on June 16 at the agency's Crisis Intervention Center. Four St. John's staff administered health tests which included breast exams, pap smears and lab testing within the mobile unit itself. All of the services are much needed and are a valuable resource to women without insurance to help maintain wellness.
One of the agency's case management goals is to prioritize full bodied wellness to include the physical, emotional and spiritual. Thanks to the mobile unit, these clients have begun their journey to a healthier lifestyle and a greater sense of "starting over". Bay Area Turning Point applauds St. John for their continued proactive approach to healing the community and to the women who chose to prioritize their healthcare by utilizing such a valuable resource. YOU DID IT AGAIN CHRISTUS FOUNDATION - THANK YOU!
The Houston Texans Community Quarterback program recognizes individuals that volunteer with United Way Agencies in the Greater Houston area who exemplify leadership, dedication and commitment to improving their communities. Marvis Carmichael with Star Toyota was chosen as a 2010 finalist for his service to Bay Area Turning Point. He was awarded $1,500 for Bay Area Turning Point and was recognized at the game January 2, 2011.
For twelve years, Marvis has led area Kroger stores in community-food drives to ensure we have the food needed to serve daily meals in our shelter and to give food to non-residential clients in need. His food drive collections help us to serve over 120,000 meals in shelter annually. Amazingly, he also volunteers for many other service organizations and is generally at the forefront of leading efforts to make the goals of non-profits successful so that they can serve the community. THANK YOU MARVIS FOR ALL YOU DO!!
